I have made some changes to the email settings page, on each user's profile, and registration. Hopefully, these changes to OnlineGroups.Net will make the system easier to use for administrators and normal users alike. The email settings page is the most visible change for existing users. The much-maligned layout of the page has been changed to make it easier to use. This is especially true if the user has multiple email addresses associated with his or her profile. As well as the cosmetic change to the page, an email address can be in a new state: unverified. An unverified email address cannot be used as a default delivery address, or as a specific delivery address for a group. When a user adds an email address to his or her profile a message will be sent to that address, verifying that the address is allowed to be used on OnlineGroups.Net. Until the user has responded to the message, the address will remain in the "unverified" state. The steps involved with registration using the Web have changed for the better. The online help for registration has not been updated (yet) but the new registration system is documented in the following post http://groupserver.org/r/post/1KOtevr6QTbZtnO4PBMuVu We do not have nicknames going yet. More on that later! The pages that administrators use to add users to groups have also changed subtly. Hopefully it will not cause any problems. Kind regards, Michael
Hi all,
The new registration and verification system is going quite well. There were a
few bugs with the "Add a New Group Member" page, but I have squashed them now
(with thanks to Bob, Marion and Steve). From looking at the logs, I see members
adding verifying email addresses successfully; I even saw the odd person
register!
Please let me know if there are any problems. The switch over from the old to
the new system has an enormous potential to create members with an odd state,
so I was expecting some issues :)
Kind regards,
Michael
