Site Features
With OnlineGroups.Net, you can have your groups on a free
custom online groups site of your own, with all of
the following features.
-
Configurable Domain
All sites are started at a subdomain of onlinegroups.net.
The subdomain can be any valid string (within our Terms of Use).
A site for "Tortoise Wheels", for example could have
the subdomain "tortoisewheels.onlinegroups.net".
All online groups at standard sites have email addresses
ending in "@onlinegroups.net".
You can also have your online groups site,
at your own domain.
-
Configurable Site Title The site title can be any
text (up to 255 characters)
that you like (within the Terms of Use).
-
Configurable Home Page Introduction Text
Text that appears to anonymous and logged-in users on
the site home page (links, images and some HTML are supported).
-
Latest Topics Summary The site home page displays a list (with an Atom Feed)
of the latest topics posted to groups that are visible to the current user.
-
Site Administration Tools editing site
options and creating online groups.
-
Site Search Search for text in
news items, static content, messages and files (the metadata and,
for common formats, the contents).
Sites contain a link to
http://onlinegroups.net
in the footer of all web pages, and in the footer of all emails.
Custom Domain
If you have your own domain, you can have your
online groups site such as yourdomain.com (or at a subdomain
such as groups.yourdomain.com).
Your site will then be at http://yourdomain.com, and the groups
on your site would have email addresses ending
in @yourdomain.com (or @groups.yourdomain.com).
To set up your online groups site at your domain,
the ISP that manages the DNS
for your domain will have two make two simple changes to set up the
new subdomain. Please check that your domain complies with our
Terms of Use,
and then ask your ISP to make the two settings listed below.
-
Set the A record (or CNAME) to 'onlinegroups.net'.
-
Set the MX record at 'smtp.onlinegroups.net'.
Once this is complete,
please let us know
and we will configure your online groups site to
work at your domain.
Site Administration Features
A "Site Administrator" can configure site options and create
online groups, configure their properties and appoint "Group
Administrators". Site Administrators have all
the abilities that Group Managers do.
