Hi, I have a new group with 29 people and 19 unverified. I just tried the Verification reminder and it sent one without showing me what I sent first. Perhaps I missed something? If not this is a request for a change in the settings. This is the "engagement" aspect of group work, and I would like to be able to see what I send, and have the option to add a personal note. This also applies to the initial verification request that was sent out. Warm wishes,
Walter

I agree that these would both be useful additions. If we were to support those things, would it be acceptable to log (with a note in the interface that it would be logged) the message that gets sent? My concern is that these messages go out to users who have *not* verified (hence being verification requests), and thus may be viewed as spam (or may actually be spam if generated by a less than ethical user). Best regards,
Richard.
Hi Walter, Administrators have never been able to preview notifications. This is a known issue ( https://svn.iopen.net/projects/groupserver/ticket/234 ) that we'll be happy to implement in time. Kind regards, Alice
Hi Richard, Thanks for the quick reply. Seeing what I send would be a good start, as it is I am engaging people blindly, and have no idea what I have sent them. Adding a personal note could be spam but if I wanted to spam then I could do so anyway as I have their address... also a reminder is an option now and going to people who have not verified. Logging the messages would be fine by me. ~ All the people in the groups I run have already agreed to join and been spoken to about this - the low verification is due to technical and perhaps language issues in the emails. I am not sure what you sent them, but long emails don't work too well, nor do emails with words like "verification". In other systems I have used the emails have been very formal and clear, but just legalese and technical mumbo jumbo to most. So that is ok, but I would work best with a note at the top, something like this... Dear so and so, Please reply to join the group. Details below. Regards, Walter. ~ I would also like the option back of not needing verification for trusted administrators. Warm wishes,
Walter
Thanks Alice, > Administrators have never been able to preview notifications. It has only come up for me since the change re "trusted admin" situation, I used to just be able to add them. Warm wishes,
Walter
Hi Walter, I am sorry we cannot automatically preview messages. As Alice said, it is on my todo list. However, I can provide example messages :-) When you add a person, the user will receive a message that looks like the following. The From address is set to the first preferred email address of the administrator who adds the new group member. From: Walter Longman Subject: OnlineGroups.Net Administrators Membership Invitation Hi Michael JasonSmith, Click on the following link to accept the invitation to join OnlineGroups.Net Administrators http://onlinegroups.net/r/join_group/no-user-found-error If you do not want to join OnlineGroups.Net Administrators, click on the following link and we will not bother you any more http://onlinegroups.net/r/reject_invite/also-not-a-valid-id When you add a single person to the group you are given the opportunity to add a personal message; it appears after the salutation. The message looks similar to the one above if you decide not to add a personalised note, resend the verification message, or add users by uploading a CSV file. In our experience, a new user will accept an invitation more quickly when an initial email is sent, telling the user what is about to happen. When we get around to writing the new Administration Guide we will include best-practice guidelines, and copies of all the messages (somehow). The other problem is that the email addresses you added may be wrong. I will contact you off-list to check the email addresses of the unverified users. Kind regards, Michael
Thanks Michael That is helpful. The message seems pretty good. It helps to know what I sent. I have another administrator who did the inviting, so she will have had the opportunity to add a message, I may need to check with her on what she wrote... These steps are quite crucial and differ from group to group. Warm wishes,

Hi there, Would it be possible to fix the 'remember me' check box in the log-in section? Since the login screen has changed, you can no longer stay automatically logged in (well I can't anyway), which is a bit of a pain; as you need to log in each time to read a file, etc. Thanks heaps, Kirsty Kirsty Wild Researcher Centre for Social and Health Outcomes Research and Evaluation (SHORE) Massey University 09 414 0800 ext. 41357 <email obscured> www.shore.ac.nz

I will see if I can get onto that for you.

Kirsty, All, "Remember me" is fixed now. If you click "Remember me" while logging in, you will stay logged in to that site, even if you close and restart your browser.
Dan
Thanks, This will make a big difference!
