Hi, I cannot find any link to a bulk subscription page, we are moving from another listserve and need to bulk subscribe / invite. Tried to find it with the group set as private, and then changed to public, but still no link on admin pages found. Thanks in advance

If you would like to invite group members in a batch, please email me directly and I will try to help you.

Dan, Im in the same boat planning to start a new group, with the intention of using a csv list from our email contacts to get it started. Any plans to bring back this means of adding names? Yes, we do plan to bring the CSV-based invitation system back. It needs a little maintenance before we can do that, I'm afraid.

Hi Dan Same issue. As you have suggested in your blog, Google Groups have made quite a few changes which now makes it a requirement to set up a Google ID etc. I understand that you have removed the bulk add option as well but at least the system going forward allows for members to join by simply sending a subscribe email (thats the way I read it ?). I can love with out the bulk add (single add would be good) but right now I would like to migrate our existing Google group list over to OnlineGorups as a one off. I have requested an email conversation with you to this end if you are able to assist. Thanks Marshall Allen
Hi Marshall, The system we removed does bullk invitations, not bulk adds. I have sent you instructions that will help you to invite people to join your group in bulk. You will see that, unfortunately, the bulk invitations system does not allow you to personalise the message. I suggest that you use the Google Group to let your group members know to expect the invitation. You could also suggest that any who do not get the invitation use the "sign up and request membership" link on your group. Please let us know how you go with that. with regards,

I just created a test group here with the intent of transfering a 1,549 member group from Google Groups. The reason, Google Groups took away "Add Members Directly". I have 19 unaswered invitations out of 20. In the past, I would have simply added them as new members. Most are reporting that they never get the invitation. I administer 4 Google Groups and will transfer them all this feature is available I was excited when I saw in your documentation that you can add members in bulk via a csv file. Of course, now I'm disappointed becuase I see that feature has been removed. I hope it comes back soon... real soon becuase I'm going to move them somewhere.

I am afraid that our documentation is a little confusing on this. To clarify, the feature that is currently unavailable allows a group administrator to send bulk *invitations*, not to directly add users in bulk.

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, since our group consists of Navy veterans who all served on the USS Newport News CA148. Many of them are older gentlemen who are not very computer savvy. This is because the ship was in service from 1949 to 1975. I need to have the "Add members directly" or there is no advantage to moving off of Google Groups. Thanks just the same.

Dan, I agree with Gary Palmer that it sometimes difficult to set up a discussion group here without the "add members directly" feature. I hope you will consider this change.
Hi Jan, > I agree with Gary Palmer that it sometimes difficult to set up a > discussion group here without the "add members directly" feature. > > I hope you will consider this change. As I mention in my blog post on this <http://blog.onlinegroups.net/2011/08/19/directly-adding-group-members-%E2%80%94-does-it-actually-help/> we are short of information on what is actually going wrong when people do not respond to an invitation. Some detailed information on that would be most useful for considering how the system could be improved. with regards,

Hi Dan, I have the same need explained by Gary W. Palmer. I'm searching for alternatives that don't constrain participants to create accounts or perform other obscure operations, obscure for the need for which the group is created. This obligation generates a huge flow of messages asking for help, "I'm not able to create the account", "what is the account?", "Do I have to create a gmail account?", "I don't receive notification", or, most important, they don't create the account and so aren't added to the list and loose the communications. I think that without this possibility to add participants directly your proposal is quite the same of googlegoups, and so why one should change? I'll be grateful if you will consider to change your policies about this ...or if other participants will share their findings about other possibilities. thanks for your time and attention
Hi Antonio, We do give consideration to the matter of directly adding members as well as to improving the invitations system. As I mention in <http://blog.onlinegroups.net/2011/08/19/directly-adding-group-members-%e2%80%94-does-it-actually-help/> our main challenge is that it is hard to determine what is going wrong when an invitee does not respond. We welcome insights into this and suggestions about how the problems could be overcome. One option we may consider in the near future is to provide the option to add group members without requiring any action by the user as a paid feature. It would be helpful to us to know what level of fee you would be willing to pay for this feature. You are right that our service is similar to that of Google Groups. They have set a high standard for email lists with an integrated web interface. While there are many small differences, the main differences that we offer are simple multi-group sites and support. With OnlineGroups.Net it is very easy to set up a site where you can locate all your groups and establish the identity of your organisation. Where you reach the limits of the system, you can contact us for help. We do not do everything we are asked and some things we charge for but there are many things we can easily tweak to help you get the best from our system. Alternatives that you could consider are: * GNU Mailman -- works great via email. Easy to set up via hosting providers such as Dreamhost or Site5. * Mailchimp -- great for email newsletters. * GroupServer <http://groupserver.org> -- the software that OnlineGroups.Net runs on is open source and available free to download and install (requires server administration skills).

The most important differences for our organization, when comparing this service with Google groups were 1) no ads in group e-mails, 2) ability to post documents, and 3) easier access to a real person when we need help.
