A reminder to site administrators that you can edit the text on your site's
home page. To do this, log in and visit your site's home page, where you will
now see a link to the "edit site introduction" feature, as well as a list of
other things that you can do as site administrator. (While improving the site
administration links on the home page today, we found, and fixed, a link was
rather broken — my apologies for that).
Using the "edit site introduction" feature, you can add headings, paragraphs,
lists, links, and images to your site home page. There is an example of this on
our Demo site.

Until today, many site home pages were blank, unless the site administrator had
added a site intro. Today, we added the following text to all sites with blank
home pages, so that vistors to the sites can find out something, even if it is
just a little, about the site.
Welcome to this online groups site. This site can be used
to create public, private or secret online groups. Online
groups are like a list server and a message board with
file-sharing and chat.
When people join groups and post to them, those posts will
appear on this page (if the messages in those groups are
visible to the public, or to whoever is logged in).
This site was created using the service provided by
OnlineGroups.Net.
From today, all new sites will have this default text on the home page.
If your site has no visible posts, for example because all your groups are
private or secret, the site introduction will flow across the full width of the
home page. This provides a good opportunity to add some text that explains your
site to new visitors.
cheers,
Dan
